Who the Board of Directors Are

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the New England Relocation Association (“NERA”), responsible for overseeing its mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.

The Board consists of elected members who serve for a fixed term of three years. The Board elects its own officers — such as the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer — for a fixed term of one year.

The election of the Board of Directors is a democratic process that involves the participation of all members of NERA. The election is held annually based on the bylaws of the organization and is conducted by the Governance Committee, which is appointed by the President.

Who Can Vote & Serve

  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Meet all the eligibility criteria for voting
  • Commitment to NERA's mission, vision, values, and strategic goals
  • Availability for bi-monthly board meetings & NERA events
  • No conflicts of interest or legal liability that would compromise the integrity or reputation of NERA

Voter Eligibility

  • Registered prior to the election date
Current Board members seeking an additional term must also be in good standing — including demonstrating consistent meeting attendance, active committee participation, fulfillment of Board responsibilities, and meaningful contributions throughout their current term.

Board Expectations

Board service is both rewarding and a meaningful commitment. Board members are expected to:

  • Attend all Board meetings (typically held virtually, with two in-person meetings).
  • Actively participate in two or more Board committees.
  • Assist with planning and supporting NERA events throughout the year, including our Spring and Fall Conferences.
  • Contribute ideas, volunteer for initiatives, and help advance the strategic goals of the association.

Board members should expect to dedicate approximately 3–5 hours per month outside of scheduled Board meetings, with additional time during the planning of our Spring and Fall Conferences. We encourage prospective candidates to carefully consider the time commitment and ensure they can actively participate throughout their term.

Prospective candidates are strongly encouraged to speak with a current Board member to gain a better understanding of the role, expectations, and time commitment before submitting a nomination.
